Abstract
Describes in a historical perspective the background of the management and employees, and gives an account of the industrial relations machinery existing in the organization before the management formally launched the personnel function. This case acts as background material for the subsequent cases. In itself, it lends itself to a discussion of the problems of integrating a new function (such as personnel) in a traditional organizational setup.
