Abstract
Starting with the history of industrial relations and unionism, attention is directed to key areas which off and on have accounted for the industrial relations problems in Voltas. These areas are: amalgamation of associated companies, EDP, emergence of VOLSA, contract labour, and agitation by instalment. The stands taken by the unions/federations and by the management on these issues have been highlighted.
