Zenithon: Lost in Transition

Abstract

This case underscores the significance of knowledge transfer within a consulting organisation. Jayesh, a young executive at Zenithon Consulting, was burdened with the workload of three employees, working 14–16 hours daily without adequate support. The absence of his manager, Ron, who was on medical leave, revealed critical gaps in knowledge documentation and handover processes. With no structured guidelines, reference materials or clear protocols, Jayesh was forced to address complex client queries on his own, leading to stress, declining health and decision-making under immense pressure. The case underscores the organisational need for effective documentation, mentorship and communication mechanisms to ensure business continuity. It raises key questions about whether firms need to institutionalise knowledge transfer practices to prevent overdependence on individuals during unexpected employee absenteeism due to unavoidable circumstances.
