Abstract
Dr. Surender Rao, Managing Director of Yashoda Hospitals, must decide whether to invest in India’s first MR-Linac (an MRI-guided linear accelerator), a technology that combines real-time magnetic-resonance imaging with radiation delivery to support highly precise, adaptive cancer radiotherapy. There is no domestic precedent for the technology, and the lack of an established playbook to guide the decision makes any investment a risky prospect. Dr. Rao convened his top management team and sought their initial perspectives. Each leader presented sharply divergent priorities, viewing the issue through the lens of their own function. The team lacked a shared vocabulary to weigh trade-offs and interdependencies together. The case offers an opportunity to apply the Business Model Canvas (BMC), a framework that integrates diverse functional perspectives into a coherent narrative, enabling informed decision-making.
