Tirex: Charging Towards Growth

Abstract

In 2020, Tirex Transmission Private Ltd. made a conscious decision to focus on a business-to-business (B2B) model and has since operated as a product-based B2B enterprise. Tirex, a manufacturer of direct current (DC) electric vehicle (EV) chargers, achieved significant early success with its B2B model. The company focused on R&D, continuously enhanced its products and scaled its operations. However, in 2022, growing market demand and the increasing adoption of EVs in India, combined with government initiatives, prompted Tirex to rethink its growth strategy. The company considered whether to venture into the mass manufacturing of chargers and adopt a B2C business model or expand into international markets while retaining its existing B2B business model. It also needed to determine a strategy for its next round of funding: whether to raise smaller amounts as it had done previously and maintain its autonomy or allow a large corporation to acquire a major stake in the company.
