Abstract
The note describes the evolution of Government of India's policy towards foreign investment in the oil industry. It brings out the gradual change in public policy from recognition of one hundred per cent foreign investment to a gradual nationalization of oil-producing companies in India. The main objective is to discuss the political factors that influenced policy changes over time.
