Abstract
One of the important policy questions being debated today is the viability of village cooperative societies. The case discusses an administrative set-up where governmental machinery is the decision maker of such issues as viability. It shows how mass prescriptions tend to ignore circumstances pertinent to individual business situations. It further shows that viability has to be looked at not only from an administrative or economic angle but also from a social point of view.
