Abstract
The case describes the history of the company since its incorporation (in 1960) to 1968. It focuses on the major proxy fight between the Firestone Rubber and Tyre Company and the Kilachand interests which arose over the issue of the appointment of a firm in which the Kilachands were interested as the sole selling agents of the companys products, namely, synthetic rubber. case presents data that will enable students to raise several issues, such as strategy of establishing Synthetics and Chemicals in 1960; alternative raw material basis for starting synthetic rubber production, the obsolescence of technology; problems of starting an industry based on agricultural outputs; risks of manufacturing a product whose consumption is controlled by a limited number of users; General Management ethics of members of the Board of Directors, etc.
