Abstract

As celebrity endorsements are becoming popular, sports persons are increasingly being used to endorse products. This note is aimed at providing guidelines for using celebrity endorsements more effectively. It summarizes various models that have been used to explain how celebrity endorsements work. It also lists and explains various advantages and disadvantages of celebrity endorsements and lastly, provides guidelines for selecting a celebrity for endorsement. This note will be useful for participants in courses related to marketing, marketing communication, and sports marketing for programmes at graduate level in business management as well as for executive education.
