Abstract
The case describes the situation faced, in 2004, by a sales officer of a public sector undertaking, in helping a retail dealership (of petrol, diesel, and lubricating oils) to grow. The dealership retails in a growing suburb of a metro. He wants to help the dealership of the filling station to achieve better financial returns. He hopes to do this by enabling the dealer to develop appropriate strategies including upgrading the facilities at the filling station. The case provides the balance sheet and profit and loss account data of the dealership and this information is used to develop a financial analysis framework. The case describes the competitive environment the dealer is facing and why an upgradation of facilities would generate better returns. This case can be used as an introductory case in a retail management or distribution management or sales management programme/ course. It can also be used in any programme for field officers supervising retail dealers.
