Abstract
SatSure, an India-based space technology start-up, leverages satellite remote sensing, big data analytics, machine learning, and cloud computing to provide decision intelligence to enterprises in sectors such as agriculture, finance, and infrastructure. Founded in 2017 by Prateep Basu and others, it developed a suite of products: Sparta for analytics, Sage for agri-financing, and Skies for infrastructure. To solve its challenges with satellite data sourcing, the company decided to go upstream and launch its own satellite payload under a new subsidiary, KaleidEO. Was this the right decision, given the high costs and risks involved? What could have been alternative strategic options?
