Abstract
The paper portrays the profiles of a tribal district in Bihar. This includes area profile notes on 1) geographical features and infrastructure, 2) economic structure, and 3) social structure. The concluding part describes the origin and rise of a separatist Santhal movement, and poses the problems the movement has thrown up.
