Abstract
Requires decision?making in terms of (a) shop layout (foundry), (b) material handling, (c) equipment utilization (cupola and crane), (d) distribution and sequencing of work between skilled and unskilled workers, (e) quality of work,( f) multi?shift working, etc. Students are required to make an integrative analysis and come out with suitable suggestions regarding staggering certain jobs, so that both skilled and unskilled workers, as well as the material handling equipment (crane), are utilized most profitably. A good analysis would lead students to suggest that sand mixing and other preparatory work could be done in the third shift so that, in the following two shifts, skilled workers may be utilized to the fullest extent.
