Abstract
The plant manager is concerned about the impact of increasing product variety, on the manufacturing operations, and consequently the competitiveness of the plant. The case describes the operations of a paint manufacturing facility. The objective of the case is to show how process analysis can be used to evaluate the extent of synchronization between multiple shops in a plant. It also highlights the role of shop synchronization in improving reactiveness to market changes and in identifying the drivers of complexity in operations.
