Abstract

Jaya Pipes Limited was promoted in October 1960 by Mr. M L Agrawal to manufacture pipes, tubes, and other contrivances out of iron, steel and such other such materials. As steel scrap was relatively cheaper at the time of its inception the planet installed was suitable for the manufacturing scrap-based pipes. As Jaya pipes Ltd. Envisaged import of machines and technical know-how, it had entered into a technical collaboration with a foreign firm of repute. The production was expected to commence by the middle of 1964 and its optimum level was expected to reach by the beginning of 1966.However the project had to be revised in the view of the foreign exchange difficulty, increased cost and the then felt need for additional Land and building. The revised project anticipated the commencement of commercial production by March 1966;The project was actually completed in November 1966 on a cost Which was about 70 more than the expected cost of the original project. On its completion ,the company first faced the problem of demand shortage and than a change in the technology rendering its plant uneconomic. The company is now under state Government's Consideration for revival in the joint sector.
