Abstract
Premier Bank was nationalized in 1969 and grew rapidly between 1969 and 1972. The bank's activities were diversified and expanded to cover more areas, particularly rural. Over 2,500 new employees were added and 300 new branches opened in 1970-72. A major reorganization of the organizational structure was also done so that the work could be handled along functional lines. In this process a manpower development cell was also set up. In 1973, the manager,in charge of the manpower planning activity, had to estimate the requirements of officers and clerks for the period 1973-75 so that the Board could approve these. The implications of his proposals for recruitment action, training, manpower budget and audit were also to be examined. The organization data (business plans, expansion expected, manpower mix, present staff, productivity indices, future expectations, etc.) are given in the case so that the student can work out the estimates of manpower required by the bank.
