Abstract

Although several methods of performance appraisal are discussed, the main thrust is on the issues and problems in appraisal. Such issues and problems as the errors of judgement, lack of relationship between evaluation and promotion, the dual role of supervisor as a judge and helper, and the training of supervisors are discussed. Suggestions have been made to involve subordinates in their own appraisal and to provide training to appraisers.
