This is a background note on the relationship between production and procurement of paddy, and different factors like size of holdings, varieties grown and reasons influencing the quantities arriving in the market. The note is based on a micro data from West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh and it tries to indicate the production pattern and the disposal patterns of farmers. The monthly disposal pattern and the factors influencing the sales of two different agencies are also given.
