Abstract
This case outlines the problems of an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) in motivating new couples for acceptance of family planning. Her targets in the new plan are nearly two and a half times the target of the previous years, and six times her achievement of last year. She consulted The Block Extension Educator (BEE), who pointed out that the information maintained in the Target Couple Register (TCR) could be used for motivation work. The ANM asked the BEE to take the TCR of two villagers and actually explain to her how to motivate. He selected two villages, on which some data were already available, and felt that 15 per cent performance could be achieved in these two villages, consisting of 151 target couples. He felt that he should also explain what specific approaches could be used to motivate these couples. In addition, specific characteristics of these two villages should also be examined. The case provides extensive data on the target couples in these two villages.
