Abstract

Jhum or shifting cultivation is the major occupation of the tribes of the North-Eastern region. There have been controversies about the illeffects of jhuming and also about the problems of controlling of jhuming. So, Mr. Das, an Officer-in-charge of jhum control activities, NECR, attends a sminar on jhum cultivation, where various controversial views both about the economics of resettling programme of jhum cultivation as well as about the ill-effects of jhum are discussed. After the seminar, Mr. Das's staff is sharply divided on controlling jhum. Mr. Das has to resolve this conflict increase the efficiency of the staff.
