Abstract
Dhariwal Infrastructure Limited, a subsidiary of the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation Limited (part of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group), operates a 2 × 300 megawatt thermal power plant in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. To enhance risk management and process excellence, the plant identified the need for an improved monitoring system for the main oil tank in the turbine lubrication system. A new alarm was installed to detect oil level drops exceeding 1 centimetre per hour. However, the process control department was cautious about increasing the monitoring frequency excessively, as it would burden system processors managing multiple turbine parameters. The requirement was to determine the longest feasible monitoring interval in minutes that would still ensure leak detection within 5 minutes, with 95% reliability.
