Abstract
The public sector steel companies in India represent an overwhelmingly dominant segment of the total steel industry of the country. As such, corporate long range planning assumes dimensions which almost seem to overlap with the task of national log range planni The case provides an introduction to the complexity of the tasks involved and can be used as a basis for discussing the role and functions of corporate general management in influencing and shaping a long range plan.
