Abstract

The case is prepared to help farmers and agribusiness students understand the business of cultivating tomatoes and how to reap maximum profit from it. The case examines the cultivation of tomatoes by three agriculturalists and the methodologies they use to make their business profitable. The case also discusses the techniques involved in tomato cultivation and how effective supply chain practices can contribute to profit. It also helps the reader understand that:- a) Grading tomatoes into large medium and small sizes improves profitability and quality. b) Mandava system of tomato production increases profits and improves quality, and that c) there are a number of changes that can be brought about in tomato post-harvest and supply chain activities which will improve quality without much increase in cost.
