Abstract

The case has used a fairly a sophisticated a methodology to develop a scale to measure job discontent among Development Officers of the Life Insurance Corporation of India. The methodology involve first generating a large number of items covering various dimensions of job discontent. The statements are then systematically screened with the use of 't' test initially and then conducting a factor analysis on the remaining items. To establish the reliability of the scale, the t-retest technique as well as spilt-half method is used. Finally, the case deals with issues of validity of the scale, both internally and externally. The students are expected to discuss the value of such a scale for the LIC management, evaluate the methodology proposed for the development of the scale and finally to examine its reliability and validity in view of the various procedures adapted.
