Abstract
The Warehousing (Development and Regulation) Act, 2007 is a progressive and forward-looking law with provisions for the establishment of a regulatory authority and recognition of warehousing receipts as negotiable instruments. This law shall make it easy for the banks and financial institutions to lend money to farmers on the basis of negotiable warehousing receipts. The purpose of this note is to highlight the salient features of the new law, which came into force in 2010.
