Abstract

In 2024, Johnson & Johnson (J&J) was in the throes of three crises. It was staring at reputational loss, failed restructuring, charges of corporate negligence, charges of ethical detours and large financial losses arising from the handling of investigations related to the crises. Despite corporate restructuring and three attempts at filing for bankruptcy, J&J was unable to unravel itself from the impact of the crises. Serious incidents of ovarian cancer due to the use of asbestos-contaminated talcum powder for babies, the presence of harmful chemicals in baby shampoo, and defective hip implants created a furore in countries where J&J had established a presence. Would the company be able to recover from the crises? If yes, how?
