This note is an introduction to the expert system shell called VP-EXPERT. It highlights the important features of VP-EXPERT and illustrates these features using a simplified tax-planning problem. In this process, the note also introduces most of the commands of VP-EXPERT. The note concludes with highlighting some of the shortcomings of this shell. The aim of the note is to help the reader to start using the shell rather than to explain each command, its use, and syntax.
