Abstract
This note aims at introducing the students to the concept of sponsorship and more specifically sports sponsorship. It first discusses the various objectives for which firms get into sponsorship deals. Advertising and sponsorship are often used interchangeably, so the note discusses the difference between these two and brings out the relative advantages/disadvantages. Finally, it touches upon the various types of sponsorship structures that are used in sports sponsorships. This note will be useful in course/modules related to sponsorship, sports marketing as well as integrated marketing communication.
