Abstract
Since 1966-67 the rice yields in Thanjavur started picking up after a period of stagnation. A major part of credit goes to the Adaptive Research Trial Programme (ARTP). The system developed in Thanjavur ensured constant interaction and mutual support between researchers and extension workers. The note describes the system and highlights its strong points.
