Abstract
Sets out an industrialist's response to demands, pressures, and threats to help the Congress Party financially during the Emergency. After briefly introducing the subject of political finance by businesses, the first part discusses the relevant political environment during Emergency, the industry and the industrialist, and the types and nature of pressures for money. The second part narrates the industrialist's decision and the conflict of views between himself as chairman of the company and his professional executives. The major focus is on the industry's interest versus commitment to larger societal values.
