Abstract
Deals with RBI's definitions of direct and indirect finance for agriculture, and the data on relative importance of these two types of rural credit in India. The note also raises questions for discussing (a) the rationale for indirect finance, (b) purposes which have a direct bearing on the backward and forward linkages of the agricultural production subsystem, and (c) the lending policy for indirect agricultural credit.
