* Required Fields

Abstract

Indian Railways runs around 10,000 trains daily and carries approximately 1,500 million tonnes of freight annually. It houses about 800 electric locomotives with 12,000 horsepower, the largest globally. The emphasis on freight transport is set to only increase in the coming years with the establishment of a dedicated freight corridor. In such a scenario, Indian Railways has a significant potential to function as an end-to-end logistics provider for India’s major manufacturing industries. This case study aims to understand the economic viability of Indian Railways in becoming an end-to-end logistics provider.
