Abstract
This note presents an analysis of India's quota distribution policy for garment exports since 1979. It deals with the genesis, anatomy and working of the policies for different years, as well as a macro-level evaluation of the working of the policy. This note also reports a micro-level analysis of the results of an all-India survey (conducted by the Apparel Export Promotion Council [AEPC], New Delhi), relating to the influence of the policy on exporting units, and the policy changes suggested by the respondents of the survey, for the forthcoming year, 1983. In the end, it also compares the suggestions that had emerged from the survey with the GOI's policy changes announced for the year 1983.
