Abstract
This note discusses the export policy of the Government of India as it evolved over the period 1950 onwards. It is divided into four parts. The first part deals with the export policy during the first decade of planning. The second part examines the export promotion policy followed during that particular development period, i.e., the Third Plan. The third part examines the development in the export policy in the postdevaluation period. The fourth and final part brings out the major shortcomings in our export policy and the gaps that are still left in the policy.
