Abstract

This note gives the authors' observations, based on their experience of simulated job interviews of forty IIMA students of the Managerial Oral Communication course in the academic year 1979-80. It provides information on how the interviews were structured, the theme of the interviews, preparation made by the students for the interviews, their ability to converse, and non-verbal communication aspects. The note concludes with observations on the interviewers' role as a buyer, the candidate's role as a seller, and service as the product to be negotiated. The note concludes that the major elements which impress the interviewers seem to be: a) clarity of career goals, b) preparation, c) confidence, d) conversation ability, and e) posture and personality.
