Abstract
Discusses the operational problems faced by the first company set up to manufacture complete bicycles in India; illustrates how the pricing policy (to fight competition from imported cycles) and higher wage structure became detrimental to the survival of the company; and brings out the policy of tariff protection and other related problems faced by an industry operating under protected conditions.
