Abstract
Part I describes the appraisal of a loan application from Hari Kaka (a deficit farmer at the existing level of consumption and output) for financing the sinking of a well, installing a pump-set, and purchasing of loans and repayment of his past debts. It also provides details about Hari Kaka's family, level of output, consumption, marketable surplus, size of his holding, project cost, and a credit report from the bank's field investigator, together with his recommendations. The case requires a decision on Hari Kaka's loan application. Part II describes how Hari Kaka requests a further loan for purchasing additional land so that he can make optimal use of water from the well. Students have to make an appraisal of his request, review the repayment terms, and assess the cash flows on the basis of the revised cropping pattern on enlarged cultivation holding, and increased intensity of crop due to availability of water.
