Abstract
The new managing director of a recently formed state government undertaking is interested in developing a suitable marketing strategy for the disposal of timru leaves, a product widely used as the wrapper for beedis. Problems encountered include poor leaf quality, lack of market information, inadequate warehouse facilities, etc. A tentative move to diversify into beedi manufacturing is also fraught with political problems and regulatory constraints. Opportunities lie in the possibilities for tribal welfare and development.
