Abstract
The Constitution of India provides freedom of speech and expression to all the citizens of India. This freedom, however, is not absolute. "Reasonable" restrictions can be imposed by the State. The term "reasonable" has not been defined anywhere. It is up to the judiciary to determine the reasonableness of any restriction imposed. Of late, there have been efforts by the government to impose restrictions on the media, particularly the electronic media, which does not come under the ambit of Press Council of India.
