Abstract
The case discusses some aspects of an "experiment" in educational innovation and rural development in a backward block-Jawaja in Ajmer district of Rajasthan. The experiment is still continuing; hence the observations presented are tentative, subject to such revisions as further experience may suggest. The case describes the formation of two groups-Jawaja Weavers' Association, and Jawaja Leather Association; the role of outside intervenors; the entry strategy; the problems encountered; the risk bearing capabilities; and other aspects of making the resourceless disadvantaged village groups increasingly self-reliant.
