Abstract
Deals with the procurement system of paddy in Sri Lanka and raises the question about the cost of financing the procurement. If the period of the payments made to multipurpose cooperative societies for procuring paddy and payment received from the Food Commission for rice distributed to the ration shops could be shortened, the cost of financing procurement could be minimized.
