Abstract
"The Constitution of India guarantees freedom of speech and expression as a fundamental right to its citizens; this right also applies to filmmaking. The right is not absolute and can be restricted by the State. Restrictions can be imposed on the grounds mentioned in the Constitution. Pre-censorship is permitted by law. Even after a film has been cleared for screening by the Censor Board, different states can suspend the screening, primarily on the grounds of law and order. The law on the subject has developed with decisions from different courts and this note brings together some of the important and recent judgments.
