Abstract
The case is about a production control situation??how best to utilize the limited number of specialized automatic machines for production of (7 to 10) components of about twelve different designs of a single monopoly product having a limited number of customers but with a slowly growing demand. The machines are being run for all three shifts. The management is trying to establish optimum batch sizes for production purposes, taking into account all the various costs, and thus achieve the highest possible production efficiency. Students are expected to try various formulae for calculating optimum batch sizes of the components, making use of the data provided in the case.
