Abstract
This note discusses "direct" and "indirect" employment effects of agro-related industries i.e. food-processing, agro-based other than food-processing, and agri-input industries. It often deals with the relative importance and "direct" employment intensity (i.e. employment per Rs. 1 lakh of capital) for these types of industries vis-a-vis other manufacturing industries based on the data of Annually Survey of Industries by the Central Statistical Organization of the Planning Commission for 1989-90. The basic finding is that these three types of industries have higher employment intensity.
