Abstract
Deccan Refrigerators Limited produced and marketed refrigerators, gas cylinders and bus bodies. After an initial spell of successful operations, the company began to face a tough time in the market. A technical problem with its refrigerators seemed mainly to account for this. The case presents the situation at a time when there was strong evidence that the company was regaining market acceptance for its products. But, credibility with the financiers having already been lost, the company was incapable of responding to this market enthusiasm. The case study facilitates discussion about: 1) how to frame a business expansion programme suiting availability of working finance, and 2) how product/product line working capital is estimated and made use of for planning product mix/working finance.
