Abstract
Discusses coordinated production (replenishment) for items grouped as a "family" using major‑minor setup cost criterion. Some real‑life situations comprising such a family are presented. A model and an iterative procedure is provided to determine the optimal decisions û (a) the family cycle time (T*), and (b) the item multiples (Ki) that indicate the cycle time and production quantity for the ith item. A single non‑iterative heuristic scheme is also suggested for obtaining the same decisions. The use of the iterative procedure and the heuristic scheme is illustrated by solving a problem.
