Abstract
Discusses the conflict?cooperation problem in industrial settings. After a brief mention of the Lewinian theory of conflict, potential sources of industrial conflict as well as the ways and methods of reducing and resolving the industrial conflict have been suggested. Taking the position that conflict and cooperation are two extremes of an accommodation process between union and management, a set of six independent factors, common to the various instances of union?management cooperation, have been adopted from Stagner (1956). These include: 1) the goal of the parties; 2) the norms accepted by the parties; 3) the internal structure of management and union; 4) the institutional procedures followed; 5) the leadership of the parties; and 6) the environment of the relationship.
