Abstract
The case discusses the uncertainties and complexities faced by Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation during the construction of India’s first under river metro in Kolkata. Kolkata East West Metro Corridor project comprises of an under river tunnel that is constructed underneath river Hooghly. The major task of KMRC was to meticulously plan and execute the mammoth project without disturbing the everyday hustle and bustle of the city life while keeping all its possessions intact. Along the course of the project multiple challenges arose ranging from land acquisition problem to political repercussions. The case deals with how KMRC navigated through the challenges to carry out this trailblazing project in order to enhance the urban connectivity and to ease the traffic congestion in Kolkata.
