Describes the setting up of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and its role and functions as they have evolved over the time. The views and recommendations of the study team on public sector undertakings of the Administrative Reforms Commission and the final recommendations of the commission are also described. The comments of the chief executives of various public undertakings as well as those of the parliamentary committee on public undertakings are stated. The internal organization of the Bureau is given briefly.
