Deals with the nature and functions of formal norms within organizations. An analysis of the norms leads to the introduction of the concept of bureaucracy and functions of rules within an organization. The note also discusses the power dimension within organizations and the corresponding commitment generated among members. Finally, the note brings out alternative models for organization structures.
